Twelve Days of Christmas is the perfect rival turned lover story by the master Debbie Macomber. Julia is a very cheery person who everyone loves… everyone except her standoffish neighbor Cain. As much as Julia wants to ignore the tension, she can’t stand knowing someone doesn’t like her. She starts a blog project called the Twelve Days of Christmas, where each day she does something nice for Cain in an attempt to wear him down.
At first, the blog is a complete disaster, but the audience seems to eat up Julia's failures. Many encouraging comments tell Julia not to give up, as the spirit of Christmas should prevail above all else! Julia's determination and aversion to failure keep her going as she continues to be nice to Cain. Each day, she seems to wear him down a little more, but neither of them expects the outcome of this little experiment.
Debbie Macomber has so many books published for a reason! She is the QUEEN of romance. The thing I love most about her books is they truly can be read in one sitting. Like, actually one sitting. You don't even have to get up to use the restroom when reading her Christmas books! This one took me about the length of a Hallmark movie, and sometimes that's just what I need.
Julia and Cain were incredibly likable, in my opinion! Sure, the premise of the book was completely unrealistic, but it is a Christmas book, so honestly... take it for what it is. The premise is adorable either way, and I love the budding romance. I'll admit - I'm also a sucker for the rivalry turned lovers storyline! I can't get enough of it! There's just something about hate turning to love that the inner, emotional me wishes would happen more often.
I 100% recommend this to everyone who is looking for a little cheese. Honestly, I can't remember why I didn't give it 5 stars when I read it two years ago, but my guess would be that I didn't like part of the plot or it got too unrealistic at some point. Thinking back on it, however, I only have fond memories.
