This book was well-written and the plot actually enticing; however, I just couldn't get into it. It took me three times to try and read this book through. For some reason, I just really can't get into it. I think it truly is because I don't do well with "serious" and "realistic" reads. Perhaps a different time, and a different mood would have led to my love of this book, but here we are.

I think for me, it's just really difficult to read about issues that are described as "past" issues (i.e. racism) and see what's happening today. I can't exactly describe why it's difficult to read, it's more just unsettling. I can't imagine how people impacted each and every day feel. Which is why I understand the importance of these books. I just couldn't get into this one... Maybe I'll try again some day.
