5/5 🧀

Have you ever read a book that's reignited a completely unrelated passion? That's this book for me! I stopped doing bookstagram due to work and recurring depression. It had been months since I'd binge-read a book... and then I decided to finally pick this one up. I don't know what it was exactly about the story, but for the first time since October, I was able to completely disappear into a story and it sparked all new ideas for my dying Instagram account!
Is this book cheesy? 100% yes - and not just because it takes place in Wisconsin! Was it the perfect escape due to the cheese factor? Also yes! Normally, I hate when an author puts every romance trope into a story, but Reichert was able to do it seamlessly while also basically making fun of herself. I loved the way Sabrina's anxiety was represented, as well. It was refreshing to see an imperfect heroine! I saw other reviews state that Sabrina was spineless, but I think realistic is more appropriate. Not everyone can always stand up for themselves all the time, and you know what? Bullies don't always lose. Despite the ghosts, this book was actually pretty close to real life!
I also loved how all the stories intersected. The past merged with the present. Families had connections deeper than previously thought. My only complaint is that Reichert wasn't so seamless when switching between past and present. Sometimes it took me a few paragraphs to orient myself. Noticeable enough to worth saying, but not impactful enough to effect my overall rating of the book.
If you are a fan of Angie Fox's Southern Spirits, this book is most definitely for you!
