5/5 Weirdly Painted Urns

Verity Long is picking up the scattered pieces of her life. After leaving her ex-fiance at the alter, she's still paying the price. See, her ex is the son of the most powerful woman in Sugarland, and she's out for revenge. Mrs. Wydell is determined to take Verity for every penny she's worth, forcing Verity to sell all her possessions and (almost) her grandma's house.
The only possession Verity can't seem to sell is this hideous vase her ex gave her. It's only after she dumps the "dust" from the vase into the rosebushes that Verity realizes it was an urn full of ashes.
Frankie soon appears, now stuck at Verity's houses because that's where his remains lie. The two quickly find out that a small "smudge" of Frankie is left in the urn, meaning he can travel anywhere so long as Verity takes the urn with her. The two also soon discover that Frankie has the power to help Verity channel the other side... It's fun and games at first, but it quickly becomes a way for Verity to solve a murder mystery (or a few). Angie Fox even adds the perfect drop of a forbidden romance!
Everyone tells you to read substantial literature in order to get the "full benefit." I will never believe that, but these first two installments of Southern Ghost Hunters only confirmed my disbelief. I first read Book1 when I was in Boston three years ago. I was the most depressed I've ever been, and my anxiety was at a ten, stopping me from reading. I didn't read a single book for months when I stumbled along a free kindle version of Southern Ghost Hunter. After not reading for months, it felt so nice to devour a book again. Unfortunately, the depression took over and I didn't pursue the series any further.
Fast forward three years and I'm in the best place I've ever been emotionally, physically, and mentally. I decided to revisit the book that brought me so much joy in such a dark time. I was a little nervous that it wouldn't measure up, but rereading the first book was just as magical the second time. (It was also long enough between reads that I didn't remember the mystery.) I love everything about these books! The southern charm, the paranormal, the mystery, and, of course, the romance. All of it is so innocent that it allows me to escape from every day life. I honestly can't wait to read the next six!
