In Mistletoe and Mr. Right, we're back in Moose Springs, but this time, it's Christmas! And this time of year is certainly as splendid as Graham promised Zoey it would be... but we're not here for Graham and Zoey this story.
Mistletoe and Mr. Right follows Lana Montgomery's journey to find true love and maintain the business she's destined to head. It also follows Rick, the pool hall bartender and owner who's desperately trying to stay afloat. Can the two defy odds to keep everything they desire?
I actually liked this one better than The Tourist Attraction. While it is a Christmas book, I didn't feel especially Christmas-y, so I had no problem reading it a little after the fact. Honestly. while Morgenthaler's writing is a little rudimentary and childish at times, the fabulous world and characters she created makes up for it. I have officially fallen in love with Moose Springs and all its inhabitants.
Something I loved most about this book is the character development of Lana. One of my complaints of The Tourist Attraction was that I didn't think there was enough attention placed on Lana. I mean, she is the reason Zoey and Graham are together, after all. In this book, Morgenthaler really delves into Lana's life. Not only that, but the character development shows the reader that Lana isn't who even we thought she was on the surface.
Of course, I also loved the development of Rick! He's my dream love interest. Not too cocky or confident, yet he grows. He's humble in all the best ways and not overly lovey, so it's actually believable. And his relationship with Diego? Swoon! I even liked the little bit we got of Diego (and I hope one of the sequels follows him in the future.)
Lastly, even though this story follows Lana and Rick, it still gives us a little of Zoey and Graham! It was like a miniature epilogue for those two, as well, but it wasn't done in a way that was overpowering to the true plot. I can only hope the sequel will give a little more of Zoey and Graham and even more Lana and Rick! ❤️
The only complaint I have about this book is that sometimes it felt too long. I think information could be cut out to make it more of a holiday read, but I also understand why the information is there. Morgenthaler is creating a world, not just one book. I will say, however, if Killian does not make an appearance in the next book (out late January), I will be very upset! I'm officially invested in all these characters, and I hope Morgenthaler has enough continuity to avoid plot holes. Again, the writing is not the best, but honestly, Morgenthaler's choice of scenery and characters truly allows me to overlook that. All in all, I've already pre-ordered the third book and know that I will be invested in the series until it ends!
