This is the first book (Just One Day) I ever fell in love with. It's the first book that made me cry uncontrollably. The sequel (Just One Year) is the first book I bought on Kindle because it was 2 in the morning and I couldn't wait until a reasonable hour to go out and purchase a hard copy. This book has, in a way, dictated the direction of my life. When I'm depressed, I often think about this book - or more so, about the way it made me feel. It made me feel understood and like my dreams were worth chasing.
As a 15-year-old, I felt the same pressure from my parents that Allyson felt from hers. I felt like I wasn't understood and that I needed an adventure to find myself. I ended up getting that adventure and it did help me find myself, but I still think back to this book when I find myself becoming too mundane. Too sedentary. Too anxious to move. I think all books have the potential to inspire one person as much as this inspired me, which is why it's so important that we promote a broad range of materials so people can find what they themselves need.
