(Yes, I love Moose Springs so much that I did nails based on the cover/setting, even though this one takes place during the summer 🥰)
We head back to Moose Springs, but this time, we're following Easton! Easton is Graham's man-bun wearing best friend and mountain climbing adventurer. He is soft-spoken (or barely at all) and isn't exactly looking for love. He does, however, enjoy relationships and wouldn't be opposed to one if it happened to appear. River Lane is what some might call a "has been." Once a successful actress, she's appeared in various flops recently and is deciding to change her role to be behind the camera. After a helpful hint about a good documentary idea and location, River finds herself in Moose Springs. Unfortunately, not everyone there is so welcoming to tourists.
After a chance meeting, Easton finds himself practically starring in River's movie. He'd be more upset if he wasn't feeling... drawn to River. The experience leads the two on an unforgettable adventure. Will it bring the two closer or will they drift apart permanently?
I feel biased as I write this review because I am completely in love with Moose Springs and all the occupants. I've said it before in a review, but Morgenthaler is fabulous about giving us updates of the characters of previous stories, while also focusing on new characters and romantic relationships. It's such a comfort read to know that while I'm learning more about Easton, I'm still going to read about Zoey and Graham and Rick and Lana. When life got a little stressful and this book came in the mail, I knew it was the "safe" story that I needed.
I've also slowly fallen in love with Easton the last two novels, so learning more about his inner thoughts and feelings was wonderful! His personality is so much more than what we see in the first two novels, and his friendships run much deeper. He was a great main character, and it was a pleasure to read things from his side.
However, I wasn't a huge fan of River. I did enjoy her feminist and empowering energy, but her... thoughts just weren't enough for me. I didn't dislike her, she's just no Lana. I don't know, Lana definitely has been my favorite thus far and there wasn't enough of her in this book. Actually, there wasn't enough of Moose Springs in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, the adventure on the "Old Man" was intriguing to read, but I wanted the resort, the moose, Graham, Zoey, Lana, and Rick. There wasn't enough, though it does make sense because Easton's love is the mountains. However, the change in scenery made this drag out for me a bit. The plot was a little slow moving, and the end seemed rushed. The continuity Mistletoe and Mr. Right had also seemed to be missing.
Don't get me wrong, I still really enjoyed this book, but it's been my least favorite of the three. Regardless, I still hope Morgenthaler writes more... I'd like one to focus on Ash or maybe even Ben next! My gut feeling is that she has at least one left in her based on the ending.
