5/5 💌

Beth and Jennifer are two best friends who happen to work with each other in 1999. The two email back and forth during work to pass the time. With technology on the rise, and the threat of Y2K looming over, Lincoln is hired as the night shift person for internet security. Sure, the company let everyone know their emails would be flagged and read, but Beth and Jennifer can’t be bothered. The first time their email is flagged, Lincoln considers sending a warning; however, he is intrigued and captured by the conversation. What the women are talking about is funny and raw. Lincoln makes the decision not to send his warning and to delete the flagged evidence. This decision might change everything.

Told from Lincoln’s point of view, Attachments is written in alternating chapters. Some are Lincoln’s direct thoughts, while others are just the chat logs between Beth and Jennifer. The alternating medium allows for a quick and enticing read. It also allows for us to truly understand where Lincoln stands and why he feels the way he does.

To me, Attachments is like Holiday in Handcuffs - I know logically I shouldn’t love the story that has creepy tendencies, but I can’t help it. I LOVE this book! It’s cozy and simple. It’s intriguing and warm. This was actually my second time reading the book, and I was worried the four-year gap in rereads would tarnish my thoughts. No such thing happened - this book remained a 5-star read for me, and I could write a whole love letter about it!

I don’t know what I like more – the friendship between Beth and Jennifer or the sheer… innocence of Lincoln’s thoughts. I am an absolute sucker for mental connections and a mind attraction. And of course, I am a sucker for the nice guy, which is exactly what Lincoln is. I can’t recommend this book enough!!
